Homily for Epiphany Sunday - January 3rd, 2010.

Deacon Richard R. (Rick) Cessar was ordained to the Diaconate in the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1999.  He and his wife Sandra are married 29 years.  They have one daughter, Lauryn. Since ordination, Deacon Rick has been assigned to St. Sebastians Parish in the North Hills of Pittsburgh where he exercises his diaconal faculties working in a variety of ministries.  He is a Managing Director of Marsh, Inc., the world’s largest Risk Management and Insurance Brokerage firm. An active member of the community, Deacon Rick has served on numerous community boards including the Diocesan Pastoral Council and the committee that studied and recommended the vicariate model for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He currently serves on the board of directors of Holy Family Institute. For four years Deacon Rick served as a Master of Ceremonies for Auxiliary Bishop Paul J. Bradley.  Rick was an elected official in his community for twenty years. He is currently in his fourteenth year of teaching at Slippery Rock University. Throughout his adult life, he has been an avid runner and biker.
