This weekend, wecommence our careful reading of the remarkable sixth chapter of John'sGospel, the central theme of which is the eucharist. The sixth chapteropens with John's account of the multiplication of the loaves andfishes. Every detail of this story is symbolically evocative of theliturgy, that great prayer in the context of which the eucharist issituated.
